How the school grew up…..A mighty banyan tree shoots up only from a very humble seed. Podar International School, Nerul is no exception. It is a mighty school in the making and the seed was sown when the second millennium was about to close. Late Shri Ganesh Podar was a visionary who had already turned around the Podar schools at Santacruz and was looking forward to establishing modern, forward looking schools in different parts of the country starting Maharashtra. The Nerul school was one of his futuristic ideas.
The Nerul school is situated on a CIDCO plot and construction of the school building began in 2006. It was inaugurated in June 2007 by Dr. Pavan Podar, the Chairman, and Mrs. Mamta Podar, the Trustee, in the presence of other dignitaries. The school's infrastructure and the environs that then existed provide a study in contrast to what is on view today. Most public roads of Nerul that one takes for granted today did not then exist. Ditto for other facilities. Old timers of the school still recall their experience in giving shape to the present. Even as the infrastructure arose to great heights from nothing, the student and staff strength grew in leaps and bounds. The student strength, including the pre-primary section, rose from about 250 students in 2007 to nearly 2,400 students and 100 teachers and other staff in 2011. Due to rising demand for quality education in Nerul, student enrolment has never been an issue at Podar International School, Nerul. It is again the same cause, viz. the demand for quality education, which made the Trustees to take a strategic and pragmatic view and decide to additionally offer the Cambridge curriculum with effect from June 2009. This too has turned out to be a success story. The year 2009-10 also saw Podar International School, Nerul meet all round requirements for Affiliation with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi. Formal grant of Provisional Affiliation status was received in August 2010. The future holds a lot promising for Podar International School, Nerul. In March 2012, the first batch of Std. X students would appear at the ICSE Examination. Plans include securing Permanent Affiliation from the CISCE and an upgrade to offer the ISC. The millennium has begun well for the school and in the next five years the school will witness tremendous all round growth. A lot more work remains to be taken up and accomplished. No dream is too difficult to accomplish when there is a strong will and wise leadership that has characterized the Podar family for more than 100 years now. |
